Friday behind-the-scenes look at THE BOOK OF LIFE: first look at the book, last minute plans, and the first wave of press coverage. Hello, everybody! I had a wonderful time last week at Book Expo and Book Con, meeting with librarians, booksellers, bloggers, and readers. We were able to share advance copies of the uncorrected manuscript to librarians and booksellers, and distributed copies of Dianas commonplace book to those who were able to get into the panel with Lev Grossman on Saturday. I know the Fire Marshal kept some of you from getting into the room, and Im sorry I didnt get a chance to meet you! Ive spent this past week visiting with family and friends since they wont be seeing much of me over the next few months. In the midst of my wanderings, Viking sent me--the actual book! This is always a stunning moment for an author, when your creation comes back to you after lots of other talented people have done their work on design and production. I snapped a few pictures to give you a sense of what the US edition looks like inside and out. Publicity and marketing are working tirelessly, setting up interviews and appointments for me around the country and the world. I will be in the Netherlands September 5 and 6 (details to come), and look forward to meeting readers there as well as the US, Canada, UK, France, Croatia, and Hungary. There are lots of giveaways at the moment in the US for copies of the book and/or copies of Dianas commonplace book. The best way to find them is to Google the book of life giveaway. More pop up every day and its hard for me at the moment to repost every one, though I do try to retweet links that are posted on twitter. If you are upset that these are only available in the US, please take your complaints to the government agency that deals with trade and contests! I dont make the laws! Reviews of THE BOOK OF LIFE continue to come in and they continue to be positive--which is a wonderful way to go into the summer. Amazons book editor included it on her list of must-have summer reads on the CBS Morning News, and its also appeared in summer reading lists for The Boston Globe, The LA Times, and other newspapers. So thats all for now. Ill be back at home for a few weeks before I head back out to meet you on the road to celebrate THE BOOK OF LIFE. Remember that I pinned a post with a link to my website and the full rundown of events this summer as details become available. All events are also here, on the EVENTS tab of this page, though you will have to use your web browser to view this page. Have a great weekend!
