Fridays GL pick: The epic, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, a song he wrote for Canadas 100th anniversary in 1967. It was three arrangements stitched together, that spoke of Canadas early development, the vision of an iron road that would bring the goods to a young growin land, and the journey carved through the different landscapes from coast to coast as seen through the eyes of the railroad workers. This particular footage is from the Live In Reno concert DVD (2000)...the first official live DVD recording. By this time, Lightfoots touring band had grown to include right hand man, Rick Haynes (1969-present), Mike Heffernan on keys (1980-present), Barry Keane on drums (1975-present), and Terry Clements on lead guitar (1971-2011). Clements was an integral part of developing many of Lightfoots popular songs, such as Carefree Highway, Sundown, and the haunting chords of The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. One of GLs dearest friends, Terry suffered a fatal stroke in 2011...he was 63. This song goes out especially to Peter Hojczyk and Michael Hicks...as requested! :)
