Fridays Lenten reflection: “As I lay on a cold March driveway, at an unopened Exxon station in Houston, struggling after an approximate 12 foot fall, I quickly realized I would need all of my faculties and could not go into shock. After taking some deep breaths I asked the Lord for a verse that would help calm my spirit. He gave me ROMANS 8:28--For to those who love God, who are called in His ways, everything works out for good. After a calm came over me, I assessed what had happened. My left foot was essentially in two pieces and 2 of my heel was in my sock. Additionally, my hand, at the wrist was pushed back into my arm so all that was protruding from my wrist was 1 of my fingers on my left hand. The events that subsequently transpired that day showed Gods perfect timing, because anything that deviated from the events set forth of that day would have meant I would lose my left foot and leg. Things happened that day that can only be explained as a God Thing. So today, 14 years later, I still walk with a limp and have some limitations I didnt have before, but the limp is a constant reminder of Gods Love for me and how NOTHING is impossible if God is in control.” Barnett Carthey is the Parish Historian, Leader of our Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group, and serves on our Vestry.
