Fridays big question. Do you get as much satisfaction from an Apollo 13 finish as you do from a good performance finish. An Apollo 13 finish is where you turn up to a start line well trained and prepared and then get beset by bad luck along the way but you manage to hold onto everything enough to finish. Two that I recall are the gucr in 2009 and the Spartathlon in 2012. Stuff seemed to go wrong all over the place and most of it was not my fault. Like my water bladder bursting or getting cramp for the first time in a race ever. Its wonderful when you train for a race and then everting goes smoothly and you get a good time, like I did in the 2008 gucr. However I think there is a huge amount of satisfaction to be gained from going into a race with high hopes, having the carpet pulled from under you but using your resilience you built in training to get the job done. I look back on those two fairly poor performance times with a lot of fondness as I know really they were great victories. So how about you? Any good stories? My favourite blogs are the Apollo 13 ones. I should clarify that this does not include races where you turn up untrained and just suffer lots as a result of that. Ive done that too and it sucks.
