Friend of God December 28 “And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: ‘Abraham believed God, so God declared him to be righteous.’ He was even called ‘the friend of God.’” James 2:23 “Friend of God” Beloved, what is a friend? A friend is the person you talk to when a new inspiration bubbles up—or an arrow pierces through the center of your heart. A friend draws communication from you in the best of times and in the worst of times. Friends unveil their hearts, unlock the barred doors, rip open the curtains, and expose their hidden motives or ambitions. Friendship is mutual give and take of inner dreams, future hopes, and timid reservations. Friends enjoy each other’s company because they have similar interests. They take walks in the sunshine to talk. They make phone calls to talk. Wherever they are and whatever they do, they chat and unload their hearts one to another. Friends talk! When you are my friend . . . you love spending time with Me. We stroll through the park and spontaneously chat, enjoying sweet fellowship one with another. When you are my friend . . . your heart breaks before Me when the storms of life strike with lightning bolts of painful emotion. You drown my feet with your tears—crawl into my lap and press your ear into my bosom. Your surrendered heart receives my healing salve to repair the wound. When you are my friend . . . I trust you with my secrets. I open the treasure chest of my Word to give you prized nuggets of truth because you have given Me the imperishable jewel of your heart.
