Friendly Or Worried? When I used to take Puddin to the vet, she would burst into the door wiggling all over, squealing and trying to say hey to all the humans there. I thought I had a dog who enjoyed going to the vet. I even used her an an emotional support dog for my scared dogs when they had a vet visit. One day, I was at a dog walking meetup and I noticed a dog who was clearly nervous but voluntarily approached everyone. At first glance, she appeared to be friendly but I could tell she was scared and stressed. It made me think more about Puddin; and I started wondering why a dog would love the vets office *that* much. Then I read Leslie McDevitts Control Unleashed: The Puppy Program. She had a section about puppies who appeared to be overly friendly but were actually worried. I realized that was Puddin. So I cut back on vet visits, and I cut back on letting strangers pet her when we were out and about. I started walking strategically so that she would be far away enough to not feel drawn to people. I fed her treats for watching people from a distance. Now she can be within 5 feet of strangers and barely notice them. No strong desire to pull towards them. Not only do I think she is happier this way, but this has also improved our Loose Leash Walking training - because she doesnt start pulling whenever she sees a human.
