Friends? 1. Ask yourself: What kind of a friend should YOU be? Not what kind of friends should you look for / have. When you become the right kind of friend, Allah s.w.t. will put the right kind of friends in your path. 2. All of us have friends who may not be religious, who may be not interested to attend Islamic lectures or seeking knowledge, who may have really had habits that we are aware of. Do not cut yourself off from your friends, dont give up on them. Theyre also Muslims, they have been given with the gift of La ilaha illallah even though they have not come to appreciate it yet. 3. Be there for your friends without being judgmental. Somebody was there for me who didnt give up on me. I used to have a really bad mouth, you would have to censor me out if I speak like I used to. But the person didnt give me a lecture about watching my mouth, the person was patient with me. Hey can you cut that out, my ears are starting to bleed. The advice were slipped in as a jokes. 4. The easiest way to cut yourself from your friends is to act as being more righteous & knowledgeable than they are, that you put yourself in a position of superiority over them. This is a form of arrogance, and people can see you through. This is not dawah. Just be good company for someone first. When you do that to people, Allah s.w.t. will soften their hearts. So when the time is right, you can slip in some good advice. Have some strategy! Some excerpts from Ustadh Nouman Ali Khans lecture in Bahrain.
