Friends, Later this morning I will be officially announcing my candidacy for the NDP nomination to replace Olivia Chow in Trinity-Spadina. I’m running to be the Member of Parliament because we need a champion for downtown Toronto - a champion to build on Olivia Chow’s remarkable legacy. We have a proud history in Trinity-Spadina. A history of effective New Democrat representatives and a tradition of engaged volunteers. We’ve knocked on doors, worked the phones, and elected strong progressive local representatives. We’ve kept social justice front and centre in all of our work. We’ve campaigned for a national transit strategy to get our city moving again. We’ve taken action to combat climate change, and challenged Stephen Harper’s failed environmental agenda. We’ve stood up against the scandal of income inequality and poverty. Standing-up for justice is something we’ve always done in Trinity-Spadina. As an activist and organizer, locally, nationally, and overseas, I’ve seen that when we work together, we can make a difference. For 8 years we’ve been honoured to be represented by Olivia Chow. She has been a relentless, inspiring advocate. With your support, I will work tirelessly to build on her legacy and stand-up for Trinity-Spadina and for you. Thanks, Joe
