Friends, This time of year I get asked a lot about the Season - TopicsExpress

Friends, This time of year I get asked a lot about the Season of Lent, and whether or not it is right to give something up for Lent... chocolate, candy, fast food, or meat on Fridays (I love my Catholic friends and family!!). I often answer this question with the simple explanation that if you are fasting in anyway during the season of Lent as a way to remind yourself daily that Jesus gave up his life, then one is properly observing the Season of Lent no matter what one gives-up. I also extend my explanation to people by saying that Jesus not only gave up his life, but that he did so by taking-up the cross. In this respect, I encourage people to take up something for the season of Lent that would help them reflect upon the life of Jesus Christ; his love and mercy, his sacrifice and suffering, his death and resurrection. So if you are a person who is interested in both giving up something and taking-up something for the Season of Lent, then I suggest giving up 10 minutes of your day in order to take up the practice of daily bible reading, and furthermore, to give up an hour or two on a Sunday Morning to attend a worship service at a local church (I hear Lebanon Church is great place to worship!!). The attached devotional guide features an invitation to attend worship at Lebanon as we present a Sermon Series, entitled Tough Questions; and an invitation to read through the Gosple of Mark during season of Lent by following a Daily Bible Reading Plan. It is my hope for all my Christian friends, that this Season of Lent will be a meaningful time of devotion and reflection upon the Lord, Jesus Christ. Happy Lent, Merry Lent, Feliz nav-Lent.
