Friends for a Reason December 2, 2014 Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar were Job’s friends. We all know Job’s story. When he was very ill, his three friends came to visit him. Job was so sick they could not recognize him. The mourned his condition for 7 days. While they meant to comfort Job, they ended up making the situation worse with their words. We too have friends who mean well. We know they do. Somehow, things just come out wrong. Sometimes our friends see us in situations they think we should not be in. They too do not recognize us, for while in our situation, we may not act like the same person they have come to know and love. Even Job’s wife, upset with his condition and situation, told Job to curse God and die. There will be times in our lives when we will need to pray harder for ourselves than any of our friends will ever or have ever prayed. In these times, we realize the one thing my parents always taught me. Friends will certainly fail us, but God never will. Sometimes when you think friends are there to help you, it is really you who are helping them. For Job demonstrated great faith in action. His friends needed to see it. Perhaps God is trying to work through you also to show Himself strong to those who you call friends. The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. Luke 6:40 NIV
