Friends, it’s been a little more than two weeks since the Fandango Fronterizo, and we’re still getting great feedback from people who attended. The event was a huge success! We counted at least 130 people on the San Diego side of the fence and about 60 people on the Tijuana side – nearly 200 musicians, friends and family who came together in a powerful, emotional, joyful showing of bi-national friendship. Aside from that, we had a great nighttime fandango and discussion on the Tijuana beach. All of this was possible in great part because of our donors on Kickstarter. With your donations, we were able to provide the space, food and drink needed for any successful fandango. Most importantly, we were able to invite three incredible musicians from Veracruz: Arcadio and Felix Baxin from El Nopal, San Andrés Tuxtla; and Carolina Cruz Castellanos from Santiago Tuxtla, Veracruz. Their presence fortified the ties that bind the jaranero community of the border region and greater California with the musicians from Veracruz who inspire us every day. In the days ahead, we’ll be sending our Kickstarter supporters a breakdown of our budget and expenses, but for now, we just wanted to offer our sincere thanks to all of our backers. Fue un gran éxito y eso nos alegra mucho! Contamos por lo menos 130 personas del lado estadounidense y unos 60 más en el lado de Tijuana—al final siendo una reunión de más de 200 músicos, amigos y familia reunidos en un evento emotivo que simbólicamente representó esa amistad binacional. También tuvimos una buena plática y gran fandango en Playas de Tijuana por la noche. Todo de esto fue posible gracias al apoyo de todos los contribuidores a nuestra campaña de Kickstarter. Gracias a sus donaciones, pudimos encontrar el espacio adecuado para tener un buen fandango, junto con la comida y bebidas necesarias para satisfacer a los invitados.
