Friends, please dont take offense if you show a picture of your dog and some of us say that it isnt 100% Akbash. There are many shelters who affix the name, either because they dont know any better, someone told them so, or they were maybe hoping the rare breed part would get some adopter interest. Since the Akbash Dog is considered a working livestock protection breed, there will be some that will come right out and say something when they believe the dog you may have, is not all Akbash. This is to protect the new Akbash owners from making mistakes in identifying what a shelter or breeder has told them, and trying to put that dog in with livestock...if they see several traits as commonly accepted on here as purebred Akbash, and these traits are in fact not Akbash, then they could end up with dead livestock. :/ The majority of people on this group, to the best of my knowledge, are companion Akbash and Akbash cross owners... but there are some that are interested in the Akbash for future livestock protection use, and some who already have them, and the discussion can turn to whether a dog is purebred or not, for that use. Again, please dont take offense, because that is not the purpose of what has been said or what will be said about identifying a dog on this forum. :)
