Friends, volunteers and donors of the Michael Schlierf HD18 campaign, now known as #TEamAwesome, I want to thank you for your incredible effort during this run. Although we failed to obtain the seat, we accomplished a great deal. The Machine outspent us 10:1. Most of this $ was used to smear and ridicule as a CaveMan. Let me just say that if I had won my seat, standing back silently while these tactics were used in my behalf, the shame and guilt would have prevented me from ever sleeping again. On the economic side of things: we spent $0.39/per vote, while the Machine spent $18.75/vote. Worth while accomplishments: - a young man who wasnt planning to vote, called me to tell me he had just voted due to our discussion; -a family motivated by the the CAVEMAN smears- looked up my website together and voted for us, including the 21 yr old who hadnt planned to vote; -many people, motivated by our Liberty stand made their first political donations ever; -we spoke to groups who didnt necessarily agree with us and made a case for the idea that TABOR was a surrogate for competition for government services- that they should be trying to be Faster, Better and Cheaper, rather than looking for more taxpayer $s -we suggested that charter schools were the friend of lower income families by creating competition for the public schools, which served all students by creating improvement, as a gentleman in the NAACP office suggested, competition is a refining process; - we proposed using STATISTICAL sampling for STANDARDIZED TESTING to give back a month of classroom time -we suggested that rather than small business programs that currently exist which handout our tax dollars $250K at a time to 20 companies located primarily in Boulder and Denver (too Big to Fail), but no help for the 10,000+ businesses in Colorado Springs (too Small to Help);that the regulatory and tax disincentives should be lowered on ALL businesses; -we proposed the solution to the role of Government vs the People, as we are now the subjects of Government rather than the Boss, was to undelegate the Legislatures authority from the unaccountable State bureaucracies who act as the Legislative Branch (make regulations), the Executive Branch (enforce their regulations) and the Judicial Branch (hear the appeals to these regulations). Apparently some believe these are Neanderthal ideas, if so call me CAVEMAN, but the citizens we spoke to on doorsteps for 5 months thought they were inspiring. I consider us successful for having a 5 month discussion of ideas, rather than pandering for, and buying votes. We all can hold our heads high, proud of what we did, and HOW we did it. I cannot begin to express my appreciation for the hard work and enthusiasm of#TeamAwesome. I can tell you that is the the beginning. WE HAVE ONLY BEGUN TO FIGHT.
