Friends, we volunteered at this school in Nicaragua almost 5 years ago. Since then, weve kept in close contact with the schools director and the students there. Its a school for comedy and mine, offered for free to the children of Grananda, Nicaragua, many of whom do not have homes or much of a future. The program provides hope and community to an otherwise underserved segment. For the past several years, the school has produced a free performance arts festival, inviting artists from throughout Central and South America to participate. They host over 150 artists from the region, producing circus workshops, music, puppetry, mime & comedy workshops to name a few. All participants camp on the grounds of the school for the week and performances take place throughout the afternoon into the night in the garden theater. All of the children of Granada are invited to participate along side these artists for free, where a spirit of teamwork and creativity is blooms. The performances are free to public and this week long festival always bring hope and joy to the community. They have always produced the festival with little or no financial support from the community, where there is little funding for the arts available.
