Friends who support pets and Prop 415. As the time draws closer there are many articles being published from either side. If you happen to comment on any of these, please consider adding this link to show the inside of the shelter, as many voters have never experienced it and have no idea how truly needed this it is. Thank you! youtube/watch?v=Nqq6xbogpoc&feature=share This is your shelter. This is where the cast-off animals of Pima County go to find hope or to die. For those who dont understand what it is truly like inside this old, decrepit, grossly undersized shelter here is a short tour in the video link below. Please watch it. What you dont see are the cages with animals packed in every dark, dingy corner of the place. The makeshift clinic room where the shelter vet manages to perform lifesaving surgeries and treats sick animals. The tiny, cramped, concrete office space shared by staff to do important business like animal rescue, life/death decisions, coordinating hundreds of volunteers; also packed with animals, supplies and everything else you can think of. There is no private space to counsel an owner who is tearfully surrendering their pet to be euthanized or simply dumping one, dragging her in the door on a chain with terror in her innocent eyes. You wont see the tears of the staff who work tirelessly to find the strength to help these people and care for these animals in conditions that were meant for a very different mission 40 years ago. Or the tears of volunteers who struggle to provide basic comforts to these animals but know it is never enough. Who fall in love with these souls and scramble to find them homes and are heartbroken and helpless when their number is drawn. You won’t smell the wretched stench of the kennels in the mornings or hear the never-ending stressful noise of barking that the animals must endure. But you will get a glimpse. The shelter is at more than double the capacity it was built for. It is old. It can’t be fixed. It needs to be retired. Our animals deserve better. We MUST do better. This is your shelter. Please support Prop 415.
