Friends who visit our home often comment on the artwork and wood carvings scattered around the rooms and hallways. When Lois or I tell them its mostly original art theyre surprised, especially when they learn the pieces were painted or carved by my grandfather, a fiery eastern European Jew who immigrated before the turn of the century; other pieces were done by my father-turned-artist upon his retirement from Pan Am in the mid 70s; my favorite pieces were painted by Loiss mom. Heres a small sample from Grandpas work, landscapes he painted from places he visited in the alps whilst a teenager, particularly the Bernese region is Switzerland and the Black Forest of Germany. My favorite is the big painting titled Out for the Christmas Tree dated Christmas eve, 1966.
