Frm d desk of d Bishop: when I was young Dr Nkrumah caught my eye. I admired him n still do for his passion n eloquence .He was an inspiration to many.He won d BBC award De African of de Millenium. He beat de great Mandela to 2nd position. It was written on his coffin- de greatest African.Indeed he was n still is.But in reality, he n his contemporary African leaders failed to lay a solid democratic foundation for their respective countries. They didnt understand political pluralism. He once said.... De black man is capable of managing his own affairs. Is it true?it is a tantalizing mirage. Frm Haite to S/Africa, Black leaders hv performed abysmally. Dr Nkrumah introduced one party system. de dictatorship of d proretaliat.Ghana in dis digital age is not doing well n is facing a lot of challenges.De Ghana Christian Council hv sent a communique to his excellency n I hope they shall not b branded as part of d opposition. His excellency means well n I wish him well too. He is a fine gentleman. But political party faithfuls ar more often dan not delusional n myopic. I always pray 4 his excellency 4 I pity him n I want him to succeed .African leaders ar most of d time surrounded by praise singers n sycophants. Pres Mugabe would hv gone down in history as one of d best in d world. Cos he meant well for his ppl. After d Lancaster gate agreement there was much hope. He actually delivered n Zimbabwe was one of d bread basket of Africa. But when d redistribution of d white farmlands to blacks emerged, he had fracas wid d British n d West. A gud policy though but he was advised wrongly by his cabinet n took d wrong approach. Dat was d beginning of d Zimbabwean Crisis. Somebody once told me d African is accursed. Theologically n genetically dis is false. Look at d Africans in d diaspora, many hv really made us proud. Even on d continent of Africa, many hv really done well. I just dont want to mention names.African leaders must hv a paradigm shift. We need to cultivate democratic values n culture such as respect to d opposition , tolerance to opposing views respect to human dignity, freedom of d press, rule of law, zero tolerance for corruption, independence of d judiciary, opportunity to all, due process, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly n association, equitable distribution of wealth etc. Ghana I can say is striving towards dis lofty principles but we need to do more by LAYING PROPER STRUCTURES n allowing d structures to function.Having structures only by name means nothing. As a consecrated Bishop, I say dis without fear or favour . Our leaders shall one day stand before d throne of God n shall b judged. Ur party apparatchik may not b there. Those dat hv ears must listen to what d Spirit is saying. I wish u well. Shalom.
