From Adoptee Betty Sue Sue: So I went to the doctor today and told him I finally have half of my medical history since finding my mother. He asked a question using birth mother. I told him that that term is considered an insult now and should not be used. He looked bewildered and asked, so what is the proper term? I said mother, just mother. She gave birth to me, so she is my mother. My adoptive mother gets the adjective. I explained that the adoption industry uses these term so that is seems acceptable to take and sell a womans child. It makes her less than a person. I told him it is similar to when a country is at war and we use racial slurs - ie kills those ____. It is ok to kill them because they are now less than human. I also told him that I dont even refer to my self as adopted. Instead I prefer the truth of I am a victim of human trafficking and baby selling. He said he had never thought of it all that way. I really wish first, natural, mothers of loss, etc would quit using these terms and just call themselves what they are, a mother. The adoptive parents should have the qualifier in front of mother and father. If I had lost a mother during childbirth from death instead of adoption, I would never refer to her as birth mother. Why is it any different with adoption? She gave birth to me. SHE is my mother. My amom did NOT give birth to me. She is my adoptive mother. Or - why cant I just call them both mom? Either way, I refuse to let the adoption business industry sugar coat what they do by using the language of lies. I have had enough lies to last a lifetime. If we all told the truth, it would be so much more difficult for the public to believe the lies of the adoption/ baby selling industry. Educating the masses one person at a time. Tell the truth!
