On Tuesday, more than 25 full-time job openings were posted on the company’s website. “The new expansion is over 250,000 square feet and will allow plenty of room to grow,” said Brian Reichart, President and CEO of Red Gold in a press release. “This investment is more than $8.5 million at Geneva alone,” he continued. “Red Gold has continually invested in the best people, products, and technology.” When contacted, company officials declined to comment on the expansion saying they were still in the process of closing on the building. The Elwood-based company, owned by the Reichart family since 1942, has facilities in Geneva and Orestes and is one of nation’s largest privately owned tomato processing plants. A mild weather season this year produced a record harvest with nearly ideal crop conditions. Steve Smith, Red Gold’s director of agriculture, said there were such large yields this year that some of the crops would waste in the fields because the company was running at capacity. “Central Indiana is seeing a crop of a lifetime,” Smith said at the time of the harvest. “I’ve not seen one this good and I’ve been here 25 years, which is a long time.” Red Gold was also recognized this month during the 2014 Sysco Supplier Excellence Awards program for its commitment and service. Sysco awarded the company a Supplier Sustainability Award for emphasizing the importance of a responsible supply chain in enhancing Sysco’s corporate social responsibility efforts.
