From Baby Morgan The Broken Jaw Puppys page. - I think this might be my longest absence from FB in the time Baby Morgan has had a page. Thank you all for respecting our privacy today and also for your well wishes. The last 48 hours have been difficult. We try very hard to be all sunshine and rainbows on her page and sometime that is just not possible, so today we took a hiatus. Baby Morgan, or Emmi as we call her, became progressively ill after her surgery on Thursday. When we brought her home she seemed fine. She ate her dinner, took her meds and slept as she should. Friday progressed well but as night approached, things took a rapid turn. We knew something was terribly wrong. She was declining, not improving. The light was gone from her eyes and we were frightened that we were losing her. It seemed to us as though she were giving up. We shared this fear with a few close to us and we know you cried along with us. This is not something we felt comfortable sharing at that time with her Facebook family. It was a very private event. We tried to put on a brave face on FB and only share the positives. That is why our posts became suddenly sparse. Saturday morning we took her into the emergency clinic. They hydrated her and sent her home with meds, not really knowing what was wrong. At 4:50 AM today, yes, 4:50 AM I received an email from our surgeon. He wanted her taken to the emergency clinic asap. She was not improving and it bothered him immensely. As he stated, it did not make sense. We got dressed, and took her in. Her fever was very high. She was lethargic. She was refusing food and water. She was shaking, unsteady on her feet and had not urinated in over 24 hours. She was immediately put on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. Pneumonia was suspected and later ruled out. A parasite or an allergic reaction were also possibilities once the blood work came back but both were also ruled out. The incisions were inspected as was the area on the roof of her mouth that had been damaged by a tooth a week earlier. There was nothing alarming seen there, though the incisions are still draining a very smelly fluid. It is still not clear what was causing the fever or her rapid decline. She is steadily improving under the attentive care of the ICU staff. They are loading her with antibiotics, anti nausea meds and fluids. They report that she ate some dinner all on her own this evening, making a total mess of the staff, cage and herself but it is progress. They did take a photo and I cant WAIT to see it! Her fever is not completely gone, but it is lower than it was this morning. She is weak and will need time to gain some strength back. When we weighed her this morning she had already lost more than 5 pounds from her pre-surgery weight in just 4 days. She will stay in ICU as long as it takes to get her healthy and ready to come home. Connie Shannahan was sweet this morning and took over posting duties to help keep everyone in the loop. I was in no condition to do so. Connie, we love you! Our million dollar girl is living up to her name. If you care to donate to Emmis medical fund, the link is YouCaring/HelpBabyMorgan
