From BuzzPo: Nancy Pelosi was under tremendous pressure from her communist liberal base not to appoint anyone to the Special Committee on Benghazi. She tried every trick in the book to derail the committee’s work, demanding equal representation on the committee, which would allow democrats to stop subpoenas and prevent a final report to be written. She then said okay, you can have a majority but we must have the power to veto subpoenas and names of witnesses to appear before the committee. She held out the possibility that she would refuse to name anyone to the committee, but everyone knew that was never going to happen. The Democrats need to be there to try to stop the committee from getting at the truth. Pelosi’s mistake was in not hijacking Boehner before he named Trey Gowdy as the lead investigator. Once he did that, all changes would have to be approved by him. He was never going to give in to Pelosi’s demands. True, technically, Boehner could make a deal with Pelosi without Gowdy. But had he done that, Gowdy would have resigned from the committee and loudly criticized Boehner and he has enough trouble these days without having to deal with the extremely well liked Trey Gowdy. What really worries the democrats is that in 8 years as a federal prosecutor, Gowdy never lost a case. That doesn’t compare to Ted Kennedy, who in 47 years in the senate never lost a case. In fact, he never lost a bottle or a shot either. But I digress. Gowdy is a dogged and persistent litigator and he will leave no stone unturned and cannot be scared off by this White House , nor does he care about what the papers write about him. He will subpoena Clinton and Obama also. But to me, the most memorable part of these hearings will be the first time Elijah Cummings tries to bad mouth Gowdy to the press or in the hearing. C-Span could make that a pay- for- view event. I got my credit card ready. I wouldn’t even be surprised to hear Gowdy point out that Cummings could be a defendant in the IRS probe or at least a witness. Today, Mz Nancy, gave up the ghost and named 5 members to the committee. Her picks were: •Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), Ranking Member, Committee on Oversight & Government Reform •Adam Smith (D-WA), Ranking Member, Armed Services Committee •Adam B. Schiff (D-CA), Committee on Appropriations (Subcommittee on State & Foreign Operations), Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence •Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA), Committee on Ways and Means (Subcommittee on Oversight) •Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Armed Services Committee, Committee on Oversight & Government Reform The committee has not set up the schedule for their first meeting , but I suspect that now the democrats have named their obstructionists of justice. Gowdy will be anxious to begin. To celebrate, I went to the bar and told the bartender to give me s democrat drink. He asked me how do you make make a democrat drink. I replied , “Appoint Trey Gowdy to investigate them.”
