From Christopher Bernier: Hello everyone. Scoutmaster Chris Bernier here. As you know by now Moosehorn International Camporee was cancelled for this year. I have stepped forward to try to salvage the International Camporee, especially for our Canadian side of the border. As such I have contacted Cobscook Bay State park and requested to relocate the camping trip there for any who wish to attend. Here is the catch. If any of you wish to attend under the Quasi organized Scout Trip that I have set up on a moment’s notice, I need you as the troops who wish to attend to send me an email by Friday September 19th with a Solid number of Scouts and Leaders you will be bringing. The Park has agreed to help the BSA salvage this camping trip which actually started at Cobscook Bay Park many years ago. They need a solid number from me so they can reserve the appropriate amount of space for the troops who wish to attend. I have not set a registration fee yet, however I may do so as this is growing enough now to turn into a mini camporee. The registration fee will be announced shortly. The fee will cover you Site reservation and a patch. At this point No set schedule or program has been put together. If troops want to put on an event I will work with you, or if you wish to just camp that is great too. I want to let you know about the things you can do outside of the park. These are the things to do with in a short driving distance of the park. Hiking trails. (Newsletter Editor’s Note: cobscooktrails.org/ and download the map) Eastport which is a small fishing village with lots of little shops. West Quaddy Headlight the eastern most place in the USA. First place in the USA to see the sun. Campobello Island which was Roosevelt’s summer home and is now a museum. As per my conversation with the Campobello Roosevelt Border Crossing today. They have informed me that large Scout groups crossing onto Campobello Island would need the following on the return back onto US Soil(This is the USA side). They said that all folks above the age of 16 should have a US Passport, however with a large scouting group who are all in Uniform minimally must have a birth certificate and a photo ID. All youth under the age of 16 only need a Birth certificate. All youth under the age of 18 must have a permission slip for both parents containing permission to cross the board to visit Campobello Park with their scoutmaster. Scoutmaster name and contact as well as parents name and contacts must be in this letter. I have not heard back from the Canadain Border as of yet to see if they will allow the same papers to allow passage onto Campobello Island. Be smart, Scoutmasters. Contact the Border to make sure this is all accurate information. Tell them you are attending the Cobscook Camporee. US Border Crossing at Campabello is :1-207-733-4960 Canadian Border Crossing at Campabello is:1-506-752-1130 Border website is: visitlubecmaine/about/bridge-to-campobello.php At this point I have 1st Prospect Scout Canada and Troop 433 Winslow Confirmed to attend this event. 1st Portland Scout Canada is going to get back to me shortly Troops will be responsible for supplying own tour permit. Registration Fee will be required upon arrival at the park. To register your troop. Send me an email with the following information. Scoutmaster Name: Scoutmaster Phone Number: Troop: Mailing Address: SPL Name: Patrol Name: Patrol Members: Thank you. Yours in Scouting. Chris Montawagon Bernier.
