From Coach Russell Cowboys Brand Longhorns Premont 20 15 20 19- 74 Agua Dulce 6 13 9 6- 34 After months of hard work, some great times, some tough times, and the full gamut of emotions that always takes place in athletics the regular season came to an end for the Premont Cowboys in Agua Dulce Monday night. The Cowboys came out on top by the final score of 74-34. The ‘Boys played solidly throughout the game as they took the ball away from the ‘Horns 33 times, yanked down 46 rebounds, shot a solid 50% from the field, and collected 15 assists on 34 made shots. Even though it was a solid performance there seemed to be something lacking for much of the game. Maybe it was a lack of complete focus, or maybe a little more tenacity or intensity. But after 30 games, perhaps the ‘Boys just need to catch their breath before beginning the next phase of the season- the Playoffs. Overall the ‘Boys finished the regular season at 15-15 while going 6-4 in District, good enough for the 3rd spot and a date in the playoffs early next week ( Monday or Tuesday). Leading the Cowboys effort on this night were a couple of double- double performances by Gilbert Ramos and Jorge Lozano. Gilbert finished up with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Jorge finished with 17 points and 10 steals. Adam Pena and Keno Soliz each finished the night with 8 points respectively to go along with their 6 (Adam) and 7 (Keno) rebounds. Shaun Binarao tossed in 6 points and collected 5 steals while Eli Carrales, Cedric De La Garza, and Alejandro Corona each put in 4 points on the night. Eli also had 4 steals while Cedric pulled in 5 rebounds. Raul Gonzalez and Sergio Gutierrez each tossed in 2 points and Isaac Pena collected 4 steals in the victory. Now it’s off to “Win or Go Home” time for the Cowboys-it’s Playoff Time. The only certainty is the Cowboys opponent- the La Villa Cardinals from District 32 A are awaiting the Cowboys in the Bi-District round. Where and when will be decided on Wednesday (Feb 12). As soon as we know the details we will let you know. Until then- GO COWBOYS!!!!
