From Dave and Bill at Portland Community Organisers..... DT5 Trust Project - invite to information/consultation evening, Fortuneswell Post Office, Thursday 13th June at 6.00pm Over the past 12 months we have been in the community ‘listening’ to peoples ‘LOVES, CONCERNS, DREAMS and PROJECT IDEAS’. Whilst ‘listening’ many expressed the concerns that either ‘youths had little to do’, ‘there were no job opportunities’, or ‘aspirations of the youths were low on the Island’. One of the project ideas that came from the listening was DT5 Trust. DT5 Trust is a ‘digital lounge’ where young people can come and look for work with the help of trained volunteers. In time they will be able to receive training for themselves in CV writing, key skills, maths English and many more skills. We are linking in with the businesses on the Island to try and offer apprentiships, mentoring, volunteering and jobs for our young people. Although DT5 Trust is primarily aimed at young people, they will be happy to support any Portland resident who is looking for employment, training or volunteer opportunities. Thursdays open evening is an opportunity for you to come and discuss the project, generate some ideas and find out ways that you can get involved (children are welcome). DT5 Trust does has some initial funding (from Synergy Housing) to get the ‘digital lounge’ up and running, but we will be relying on the good will of businesses, local people and volunteers to make it a success.
