From Dr. Frank Sibbalds Journal, March 1876 FRIDAY - TopicsExpress

From Dr. Frank Sibbalds Journal, March 1876 FRIDAY 17 Thermometer17 to 37, snowing all day up to 5 PM. Came on to blow slightly from the NW about 4 PM which turned to a gale from te North before sundown. I drove Fan in Pagets cutter as far as Bourchiers corner where she pitched me out into the ditch, having run away from John Matherills. I narrowly escaped being smashed up against a wagon which kept the middle of the road although I hailed it to get out of the way. After dropping me in the ditch Fan continued her course like she was brought up by a post at the Queens & tore the shafts out of the cutter and found her way to Sheppards. I fortunately escaped without back damage. John Bourchier drove me home. [Another favorite passage -- this event maybe the first of many accidents over the past century plus, at the S-turn by The Briars ... but Frank still purchased the property in 1878!]
