From Dr. Paul Klahrs Devotionals... Security There are many pictures that depict security. One of them is a hen calling her chicks to come under her wings. Jesus prayed, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! William Cushing wrote a song called, Under his Wings. Cushing was a Pastor and after Pastoring several large Churches, he lost his voice and could no longer preach. He cried out to God and God gave him a writing ability. In the first verse of the song, he shows his security, Under His wings I am safely abiding; though the night deepens and tempests are wild, still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me; He has redeemed me, and I am His child. The Chorus echoes his confidence. Under His wings, under His wings, who from His love can sever? Under His wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever The recurring theme of security is taking God’s path. No man can ever be all that God wants him to be unless he is willing to be fully obedient to God. Abraham was willing to leave his roots, his security, and his familiar territory. He was ten years past the retirement age. He was an old man who learned new security. The Israelites going through the wilderness had the security of the presence of God in a pillar of fire and in a cloud. I Am (God’s name) was always with them. Sometimes He went ahead of them, sometimes behind them protecting them from their enemies. His presence was their security. Jesus said, I will be with you always, even to the end of the age. He prayed to the Father about us and said, I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s Children. With these promises, our security is firmly fixed because God is sovereign and His presence and peace are in us through Jesus Christ our Lord.
