From FG page COSTCO has not submitted a plan, an application, or any preliminary drawings, statements or made inquiries to our office. We have not been contacted by COSTCO nor have we had any inquiries on the property north of Walmart. While a developer does not have to disclose a user/tenant, we are bound by law to release any information submitted to this office. I can state that nothing has been submitted to this office to date. I can also state that the COSTCO real estate department does not have plans in Michigan for the next 3 years. Any new development begins in our planning department approximately (depending on the size of the project) 18 months prior to building permits being issued. Building permits are required prior to construction commencing. For practical examples, the Starbucks site began contacting our office 2 years prior to construction. The Walmart Supercenter began talks with our office almost 4 years prior to construction. The SCCEDA and other local developers and real estate professionals have worked diligently to get COSTCO to our area, a main reason being that their average wages are higher in comparison to similar large retailers. COSTCO would not only bring in a significant addition to our tax base, the number of well paying jobs it would create would be a huge asset to our region. As much as I would love to confirm the nonstop rumor, sadly, I can only offer the opposite.
