From Gary Santos “The Mayor has placed an item on the Police, Judicial and Legal Committee meeting on Monday at 10:45 that will require three (3) Council Members to support an issue in order for it to be placed on Town Councils Agenda. Currently, the ordinance requires only one (1) Council Member to place an item on Councils agenda. The following is the description of the ordinance change: Please find attached draft ordinances reflecting proposed changes to Chapters 30, 32 and 138 of the Code. The proposed change to Chapter 30 would require 3 Councilmembers to add an item to the Council Agenda as opposed to only one. If this ordinance passes, our citizens will lose their voice in their government unless two other Council Members agree to support an item proposed for the agenda. This ordinance is clearly designed to limit me from addressing important issues, like the permit allocation plan, the parking garage on Shem Creek and other important issues that are currently affecting the quality of life in our town. Please attend the PJ&L Committee Meeting or contact the Town and let them know that you do not want this ordinance changed. Its your town and you should be able to have issues that are important to you discussed by your elected officials without restrictions.”
