From Gene to our coaches: Good coaches seek to tap out the potential. They understand they must speak to and touch the body, mind, heart, and spirit of each player. Until the heart, mind, and spirit are involved then talent will never be enough. The good coach understands the potential is just energy that is stored until utilized and their main job is to activate that potential. The body = skills The mind = knowledge The heart = desire/passion The spirit = confidence Bad coaches spend ALL of their time growing and developing one part; the body. They practice, condition, and run. When they lose they never even figure out why losing has nothing to do with how much they practiced but rather with the other parts of the player’s nature such as the mind (they don’t understand or execute), the heart (there is no passion or care from the players), or the spirit (there is no trust, or chemistry between the players and coaches). Because they don’t understand these principles they yell louder, condition longer, and run the players in the ground only distancing themselves even more and never speaking to the key parts of the player’s nature. The goal is to speak to and motivate the knowledge, skills, desire, and confidence of each player.
