Sokol Arena. Creighton improved to 5-5 on the season while avoiding its first three-game home losing streak since 2007. Drake fell to 4-5 with the loss, The game was fast-paced from the start as the two former Missouri Valley Conference rivals battled through 12 lead changes in the opening 12 minutes . Creighton trailed 27-26 with 8:28 left in the first half before a 13-0 run gave it the lead for good. Janning had eight of those points, including a pair of three-pointers, as she made her first six shots just three days after being held to a season-low five points vs. Nebraska. As the teams traded baskets, the star players from both teams continued to rack up the points. Janning matched her season-high 22 points by halftime on 9-of-11 shooting, while Drake star Lizzy Wendell (21.4 ppg.) had 16 points in the opening half. Creighton led 48-37 at the break, its most points in the first half of a home game since November, 30, 2005 (50 vs. Houston). Creighton scored the first four points of the second half and never allowed the lead to slip below 13 the rest of the way. The 164 points between the teams tied a D.J. Sokol Arena record, matching the 86-78 Bluejay victory over DePaul on Jan. 4, 2014. Janning had the third game of 30 or more points in her career, finishing the day by making 12-of-19 shots and dishing a team-high seven assists. She became the first Bluejay with at least 30 points, seven assists and five rebounds in the same game since Christy Neneman on Dec. 22, 2002. Freshman Sydney Lamberty stated her case for a second consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolade by finishing with a season-high 17 points, as well as five rebounds and five assists. Also in double-figures was senior Alexis Akin-Otiko, who had 15 points and seven rebounds on the heels of a career-high 23 points vs. Nebraska on Thursday. Also recording a career-high was junior Tessa Leytem, who scored six points in eight second-half minutes. Creighton controlled the glass, 45-32, and outscored Drake 14-6 in second-chance points for the afternoon. The Bluejays 35 field goals tied an arena record, and came on 23 Bluejay assists. Drake was paced by 21 points from Wendell, while Caitlin Ingle had 15 points and a team-best five assists. Freshman Maddy Dean added her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Creighton will take the next week off for final exams before hosting Omaha on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 12:05 pm.
