From Harry Urban Not all that wander, are lost. This is especially true when you are living with Dementia. I wander not because I want to, I just do. If Hazel and I go shopping, she needs to be aware of my presence at all times. The shopping malls are all decorated for the holidays and they fascinate me. If we stop to look into a window and something else draws my attention, I may disappear into the crowd and lose contact with Hazel. More than once Hazel was talking to me and turns around and I’m gone. This not only frightens her but scares the dickens out of me. When I look around and can’t find her, I panic. I carry a cell phone but most times I never hear it ring. Even if I did hear it ring, in my panicked confusion I would not react to it. I was told a tip. Before you go shopping take a picture, with your cell phone, of your loved one so if they do wander off, you can show it to people to help find him. I love the Christmas lights but Hazel takes extra precautions to keep me safe.
