From Jacqueline Crahalla... The Brigantine Beach Community Center - TopicsExpress

From Jacqueline Crahalla... The Brigantine Beach Community Center is funded by taxpayer dollars. It functions as a local government facility, run by a city employee. Why has it become the home of the local Democrat party and their monthly meetings? Even if they pay a fee for use of a room and are technically taxpayers themselves, the point is partisan politics has no place where taxpayer dollars are involved. Years ago I was a Lower Providence Township supervisor in Montgomery County, Pa. We had a policy that township facilities could not be used by any partisan political party. Service organizations, scouting and civic groups could use township facilities. Simply put, political parties were not permitted since tax dollars were involved. The citizens of LP would have been up in arms had any political group used the township’s conference rooms, parks, library, etc. for meetings. Similarly, township department heads would only speak at non-political meetings held by local organizations such as the Optimists, Rotary, Lions, etc. In Lower Providence and surrounding townships and boroughs, political parties (both Republicans and Democrats) held their meetings at local restaurants or clubs. Ads would be placed in local papers announcing upcoming meetings at those locations, welcoming anyone interested in joining either party. Am I the only person in Brigantine to resent tax dollars being used to benefit one political party? It would make sense to keep Democrat (or Republican, Libertarian, etc.) political recruitment meetings out of Brigantine’s tax-funded facilities. Jacqueline Crahalla
