From Kay Kayula Morning! I have another article. Thanks for your kind gesture in posting my articles. POSITIVE CONFUSION The political discourse at this moment in Zambia has turned out to be a very interesting one, particularly regarding the situation in the ruling Patriotic Front (PF). Many hold different opinions regarding the million dollar question, who will be the PF presidential candidate in the 2015 January by-elections? While most of us have seen confusion in the step taken by several PF aspiring presidential candidates, especially those that have come out in the open, the PF still have an opportunity to turn the current scenario into positive confusion. In justifying my line of thought, allow me to stress the fact that competition is healthy in a democracy and a sheer difference in opinion should not mean enmity. It is also important to note that your competitor especially in an election should not be your enemy! Because one has decided to subject himself or herself to a vote is does not mean they hate the others who are also contesting. If we can refer to what happens in the USA primary elections for instance, we normally see stiff competition within the party, be it Republican or Democrats, although there is usually a forerunner, he or she has to prove their popularity be subjected to a vote. More interestingly, the winners usually embrace the defeated candidates afterwards, as was the case with Obama and Hilary Clinton. It would be rewarding for the PF to turn this confusion into a positive one. They will do more good to themselves to openly declare their interests and go for a general conference. After that, whoever wins can embrace the losing candidates and forge ahead. It is possible and it can be done.
