Latest News on heartofdallasbowl December 20 - Louisiana Tech Fast Becoming the ‘Cradle’ of Quarterbacks When fans observe the success of Louisiana Tech quarterbacks such as current signal caller Cody Sokol and dating back to future NFL star Terry Bradshaw and even “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, it is easy to see how the Bulldogs are becoming a literal cradle of quarterbacks in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. Tech’s longstanding success has been from transfers such as Sokol (started his career at Iowa), Luke McCown from SMU and Tim Rattay from Scottsdale (Ariz.) College along with homegrown products such as longtime Canadian Football League legend Matt Dunigan, Jason Martin and Zac Champion. Sokol’s 2014 passing totals have placed him among the schools best for a single season. His 3,189 yards passes currently ranks ninth on the season-best list with a 172-yard effort against Illinois next week pushing him into the No. 7 spot. His 29 TD passes this season ties him for No. 6 on the list with McCown. Read More December 20 – Illinois Running Backs Carry Strong Tradition From the Galloping Ghost Red Grange in the 1920s to current rushing leader Josh Ferguson (pictured), the Illinois Fighting Illini actually have established as solid a tradition for great running backs as any team in the rush-heavy Big Ten Conference. A junior from Naperville, Ill., Ferguson has rushed for 685 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Fighting Illini while catching 44 passes for 373 yards and two more scores. For his career, Ferguson has totaled 1,828 yards rushing with 15 touchdowns. He has also caught 125 career passes for 1,173 yards and six more scores to give him 3,382 career all-purpose yards. Ferguson posted a 95-yard, two touchdown rushing effort in Illinois regular-season finale at Northwestern when the Fighting Illini became bowl-eligible in Coach Tim Beckmans third season in Champaign. He also caught two passes in Illinois 47-33 win over the Wildcats in Evanston.
