From Life Between the Eyes... I get so tired of people telling me that its MERRY CHRISTMAS NOT HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Really? Seriously?? 1. You are only ticked off because someone told you that you should be. When we were all kids, everyone said Happy Holidays - meaning to include all the holidays in the season from Thanksgiving to New Years - and no one cared. 2. The world is bigger than you, you judgmental jerks. In my house, we celebrate Yule and (an admittedly secular) Christmas, my daughters bff celebrates Hanukkah and Christmas, and we all celebrate New Years Eve. Its just easier to say Happy Holidays than it is to say Happy Hanukkah/Yule/Christmas/New Year! 3. Why in the world would you possibly think its ok to preach to and/or yell at to someone who is trying to wish you well? If I knew your mother I would be sure she taught you better than that. *update*: Ive been reminded that the very word holiday comes from the phrase holy day. I cant see how it gets any more respectful of an, um, holy day than that.
