From Resources: Comments due: I & J Waterway Cleanup Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study Comments due: November 28th Send comments to: Lucy McInerney, [email protected] The Port of Bellingham has completed an environmental investigation into the contamination at the I & J Waterway site. The study included sampling which found nickel, phalates, phenols, and PAHs in marine sediment. The study also evaluated a range of potential methods to address the contamination. The preferred cleanup option includes removing about 18,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment, capping a .7-acre area, and monitoring the natural recovery of a 1.1-acre area to ensure that the contamination levels are decreasing.
