From: “The Office behind the Door!” I am going to Botswana on Saturday to attend the “Conference of Heads of Independent Schools” of Botswana. (CHOPS). I will be presenting a talk on “The Future of Education,” as the representative of the South African Independent Schools Association. I will be away for the whole of next week and if you have any problems or issues, Adam Wood will be available for discussion. Geraldine Venter will be in charge while I am away. We are initiating the first 24 hour Readathon this weekend, in order to raise interest in reading amongst the pupils. We ask you to assist your children in finding sponsors so that we can raise some extra funds for library books. Where are my grade 6’s???? We are delighted with the behaviour and sportsmanship of the children at sport functions. Despite the fact that we lost all of our matches at the Uplands festival, we had many compliments on the behaviour of the children. What is a concern however, is the amount of “junk” food that the children take to these matches – and in our drive to become a “Green” school, we would request that on these outings, Summerhill children take only healthy foods. Chips, sweets, popcorn, chocolate etc. are not suitable food for sport events. Yoghurt, fruit, sandwiches – these are snacks suitable for an afternoon of physical activity. Please take a little time and effort in packing healthy and sensible food packages for your children.
