From The Times newspaper: Morris Hospital honors volunteers Posted: Sunday, July 6, 2014 11:21 pm Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers recently honored 606 volunteers during the annual volunteer recognition luncheon. In the past year, volunteers logged a record-breaking 55,451 hours. “We cannot do what we do without the support of our volunteers,” said Karen Nowosielski, the hospitals volunteer services manager. “They provide conversation to our patients and visitors, smiles and sometimes a shoulder to cry on. They provide exceptional support to the Morris Hospital staff. Each of our volunteers makes a difference in the lives of others.” The greatest number of volunteer hours, 28,897 last year, were donated to the Patient Transportation Service, which utilizes a team of about 80 volunteers to provide rides to more than 16,000 medical appointments each year. Volunteers logged 5,877 hours with the emergency response Lifeline service; 4,489 at the main reception desk; 2,728 in the surgical waiting room; 1,281 at the outpatient greeter desk; 1,085 at the outpatient surgery desk; 1,085 with the courtesy/rehabilitation shuttle; 905 with medical records; 800 for special events; 790 on sewing; and thousands of additional hours to many other departments and services. Along with being recognized for achieving milestones in service hours, five volunteers, all Morris residents, were honored with Years of Service awards: Jan Christensen, Char Orndorff and Iva Jean Voelcker for 25 years, Marilyn Wilder for 30 years and Shirley Bonomo for 35 years. Also at the luncheon, the Morris Lions Club presented its Citizen of the Year award to hospital volunteers for unselfishly donating their time and helping people in the community.
