From Trash to Treasure - Henrys Story Henry was a stray, he - TopicsExpress

From Trash to Treasure - Henrys Story Henry was a stray, he was on his own with no one to care for him and no home to call his own. He attracted the attention of Animal Control who brought him to the Catawba Animal Shelter In the hope that his family might surface and come to reclaim their lost pet. Sadly no one ever came looking for this sweet soul and the future started to look bleak. Everyone who met Henry along his journey was quick to fall in love, especially the shelter staff. Wanting to ensure his safe release they put out a plea for rescue. Lucky for Henry Last Chance Animal Rescue stepped up to make sure that this handsome boy would get his chance at a wonderful life. When he arrived at the shelter Henry was so matted there was no choice but to shave him down. It was unclear if he had been on the streets for long but if he had a family they hadn’t cared for him. In addition, as is so often the case, he tested positive for heartworm and would require costly treatment. It took months for Henry to get healthy but once ready to make his journey to New York a lovely couple, and great friends to the rescue, offered to host him. Henry arrived and life for his foster family was forever changed. Like a cross between a lion and a cartoon dog he brings happiness and joy to all who meet him. His love for life is infectious and it is heartbreaking to think he might never have had the chance at happily ever after. A true reminder that one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Henry is a friend to all, he adores people of all ages, other pets including cats who he can often be found snuggling with enjoying an afternoon nap. We were thrilled when Melanie and John decided to make Henry an official part of their family! His parents, now proud foster failures, made it official on October 5th 2013. Since joining the family he has become a huge part of their lives. Henry has inspired his parents and their friends to to promote Last Chance every chance they get. In fact many have adopted as a result including their engagement photographer. Knowing how close Henry came to losing his life his family continues to help others by fostering and in August 2014 they added a senior lab/chow to the family after Henry and she bonded. Now best of friends they are constantly by each other’s side just like their loving parents. Henry would have never enjoyed so such joy and happiness were Last Chance Animal Rescue not committed to saving animals from rural Southern shelters. It is thanks to our amazing shelter partners, loving foster families, dedicated volunteers and awesome adopters that thousands of animals have been saved since our inception. Looking at his smiling face, and knowing the happiness he enjoys, we can’t imagine a world where he would have never left the shelter alive. Founded in 2008, by Whitney Knowlton, Last Chance Animal Rescue is a volunteer based nonprofit and our focus is to rescue animals located in KILL facilities trapped on death row in rural shelters.
