From a concerned citizen. Dear Premier Clark, I am writing - TopicsExpress

From a concerned citizen. Dear Premier Clark, I am writing you to register my dissatisfaction with you and your government’s stewardship of British Columbia’s public school system and your mistreatment of the teachers who oversee the day-to-day facilitation of our schools. I am not a teacher, nor is anyone in my family, but I am greatly concerned about your handling of the current labour dispute. I am deeply troubled by the revelation that your government has negotiated in bad faith with the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) on more than one occasion, and that your government has, consequently, gambled with the futures of our province’s children. In September, I will be beginning my Ph.D, and much of my academic success is owed to the primary and secondary education I received in BC’s public school system. I am upset to learn that many of the privileges I took for granted as a student in this province have been slowly eroded. I am reluctant to suggest that students currently enrolled in BC public schools will have a genuine opportunity to succeed. Your cost-cutting, assembly line approach to education is not only pedagogically disastrous—it is developmentally hazardous. You have attempted to operate our first rate schools as second rate businesses, and our students are suffering for it. You have asked our many fine teachers to bear the weight of your ideological iniquities, and, in so doing, you have grossly abused the foundation of our children’s success. I am urging you, Ms. Clark, to reevaluate the Liberal Party of British Columbia’s handling of the BCTF’s labour dispute, and to work towards a mutually beneficial and amenable solution to it. Sincerely, Brycen Dwayne Janzen
