From a few Real Labour (read: disowned by Labour) weve heard: Dont worry about the Tories, more austerity, more privatisations, were going to get a Labour government next year. Aye, well weve heard that before. I remember, age 9, my mum and her friends joy as the Labour victories came in. English Labour victories, spontaneous cheers. Scottish Labour victories were a given, it was a sign of progressive politics from England theyd been waiting for for EIGHTEEN YEARS. And even IF we do get a Labour government under Ed Miliband, they wont be looking at Scotland and the poor of the UK, theyll be looking at a populist rejuvenated Tory party under Boris Johnson and an incandescent Nigel Farage denied an EU referendum. Theyll use any powers or recognition to Scotland as a stick to beat that hypothetical Labour government. Austerity will continue. Cuts will continue. Expenses for MPs will go up. There will be no democratic federalism within the UK. No thanks to that. Yes to a better future.
