From a friend of a friend, a missionary working in Africa (but not a problem just in Africa): Stepping up on my soapbox... I was called to come out to the village this morning. We have had a Bible study there for a year and I was summoned because something was up. When I got there, the elders basically kicked us out of the village and told not to come back. Here is where I get hot under the collar...27 Americans were brought to the village led by the MP of Turkana. These well meaning Americans promised if the village would let them build a church, they would also dig a well, build a nursery school and a medical clinic, the MP promised to provide a doctor and a teacher. While these are not bad things, good actually, they cripple the spread of the Gospel. Yes, that village will have a church. But they will be taught by this practice, if the next village is going to have a church, then someone must come and build a well, school, and clinic. They will expect those in America to also pay the salary for the pastor, and every pastor that follows him. ...Stepping off my soapbox.
