From a frustrated, young Edward Wortley: London, 24 Octber Since I write what is in the other sheet I have had yours letter. I am infinitely obligd to you for it and will ever be grateful for your Favours. I am sorry I write it all and yet how can I avoid sending it? How wretched am I! It is now not possible to have any reliefe but from Absence and Time. Tell me only what I shall say to your Father; by that I shall know you have had my letter. In few days I go out of town for a month. Lest I shoud be gone before you write, direct to me at Mr. Goodwins over against St. Dunstans Church. Another time be sure to chuse one far superiour to me or you will not be able long to undergo the Drudgery of pleasing him and will repent you ever thought of him. You speak of Gaiety and a desire to please many; dont mistake. A woman is never pursud long, unless for her money, till she has given Possession or very strong hopes. Why will you be thought to have gone so far with several? One with a very small share of your Beauty or wit can draw as many and as deserving, even as yours are, if she will seem more fond of em and is a new woman. Tuesday night.
