From a member: I have been reading a following for a few months now but still afraid to speak out. I am hoping for some pointers or ideas that can help. My husband has been diagnosed with ptsd and is on risperidol and depakote. Risperidol seems to help some with the voices in his head and the people he sees but has horrible side effects can anyone out there suggest a different medicine to help with these things. Since he has started taking it he has gained weight l, ansy, cant sit still for more then about ten minutes, his legs will start shaking. He was given a medicine that is supposed to help with these side effects but nothing has changed and it is starting to worry me. Also if anyone has any coping mechanism for me as a spouse for when he has his down days or secluded days where he doesnt want to go anywhere or be outside the house please let me know. We are doing better as compared to a few months ago before depakote and awaiting his narsum to be complete by the sounds of it he will out likely placed on the tdrl list and go from there. I can see he is getting nervous about adjusting back to civilian life and I really would like to help make it as smooth as possibly. I understand that he just as anyone else did not ask for ptsd.
