From a tube feeder: I have severe gastroparesis (I also had a colectomy/ileostomy because my motility issues affect my whole gut, and my colon had no function). Ive had a GJ tube for 2.5 years and feed through the J. I have tolerance issues, so Im on Elecare Jr. and cannot get my rate over the low 30s. I crush my meds and put them through my J tube, because when I swallow them or put them in my G, they just sit there until I end up draining them back out, even 8+ hours. Also, I had a couple of very scary experiences in which we think I got overdosed on multiple doses finally moving at once. So, I have long put meds through my J... but, lately, I cant. When I push the whole 10-15 cc at once, I get hit over the head with the worst pain and nausea, sweating, dizziness, and it takes a while to recover from it. Ive tried pushing a couple cc at a time, ten minutes apart, but I still feel really nauseous... plus, between pushing the meds and flushing (which I also have to do very slowly), it takes way too long and I have other medical care to do. I cant do the meds via pump, because some dont dissolve very well and they settle so theyll clog the bag. None of my docs/nurses have ever heard of this. Any other ideas for getting meds in without torture?
