From another forum for those who are interested Dear all, I am posting about an event that ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is putting on this year - the Ancestry.co.uk Frontline Walk. The walk is a groundbreaking and exciting project to commemorate the First World War centenary and raise funds for the Charity. I have chosen to write to this forum specifically as the walk goes through many major battle sites and important WWI sites, which will enable people to begin to grasp the sheer number of people who gave their lives and their experiences. This will hopefully give an even greater depth and reality to your re-enactments, as well as providing support to the soldiers, veterans and their families of today The Ancestry.co.uk Frontline walk takes place on 15 – 19 October. We are looking for at least one walker to represent each of the 200+ regiments of the British Army that fought between 1914-1918. Participants could represent their Fathers, Grandfathers, Great-grandfathers or local regiment – or indeed, any regiment they feel an affinity with! The walk will take place over five days, visiting many famous battle sites such as Thiepval, Vimy, the German Cemetery at Neuiville Saint Vaast, and Notre-Dame de Lorette. The challenge ends with a moving visit to Ypres and the ceremony of the last-post, on the 18th October 2014, exactly 100 years on from the start of the Battle of Ypres. No Man’s Land was a terrifying place for soldiers to find themselves between 1914-1918. Any soldier, veteran or their family can find themselves in a kind of No Man’s Land today. The Soldiers’ Charity is here for them on their time of need. Further information on the Frontline Walk can be found at soldierscharity.org/events/event-item/ancestry.co.uk-frontline-walk. This includes details on the itinerary as well as some information on fundraising for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. If you have any questions about the walk or the work of The Soldiers’ Charity please email me on [email protected]. Kind Regards Amy
