From my daughter, Megan Skipworth. I’m thankful for prayer. “4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7 One of the things that baffles me most about God is that He listens to our prayers. If there is anything about being God that might be tiresome, I would imagine hearing our whiny, repetitive petitions would be it. I guess that’s why it’s fortunate that I’m not God. Because it does seem like He thinks our prayers are worth listening to. He hears us always (Psalm 34:15). The God who put the stars in the heavens, who breathed life into dust, who created time itself, who defeated death – it’s this God who hears our every prayer. Not only that, He invites our prayers (Jeremiah 29:12). But the best thing about prayer is that He doesn’t need us to pray. God knows what we need even before we ask Him (Matthew 6:7-8). But He wants us to pray anyway; He wants to talk to us. And it is through prayer that He gives us peace. Almighty God, thank you for listening to us, for hearing our requests, for accepting our praises, and for giving us peace.
