From my pastor... Secular or religious. That’s the public debate over Christmas. If secular…what must go? Gift-giving – that’s from the story of the wise men. Stars and lights – that’s from the star in the east…and the bright light of the heavenly host. Peace – that’s from the declaration: “…and on earth peace, good will toward men.” So…if you take all the religious aspects away…what’s left? Not much. The secularists want the commercial benefits…but not the real meaning. Imagine the financial loss…if gift-giving disappeared. Sadly…the debate goes on. And…with it…the growing attempt to secularize Christmas. Perhaps the secularists should be accused of plagiarism – borrowing…without paying. Anyway…the true meaning of Christmas is still with us.
