From one parent to another, please teach your kiddos tolerance. No person should have to deal with racism and no person should be made fun of for having special needs either. Today, my little guy got made fun of again for being different. While its getting easier for me to not go into momma bear mode, it breaks my heart when I see the bright smile on my sons face replaced by a frown. He doesnt process all things like everybody else, and he has no control over the way he is, he just is. And I could be prouder of him or more in love with him. Please teach your children that kids like mine with special needs deserve to be played with, included, and talked to. Even if its a simple hi. He has something beautiful to contribute to this world just like everybody else and has a heart and feelings that can be broken. And a very big shout out to the one 9 year old, who didnt even know him, that stood up to a whole group of kids and yelled at them to stop making fun of him. It made my heart swell with gratitude (I was across the pool with M while a life jacketed Timmy was sitting at the edge stimming and minding his own business).
