From our Project Director, Dhirendra Sharma: COMMUNITY DAIRY PROJECT AT BODHI TREE CAMPUS, BODHGAYA, INDIA PROJECT PHILOSOPHY The project is proposed to be set up with the central aim of reducing child malnutrition rates of the kids studying in the school from six villages around our community campus. These kids are provided with one time nutritional supplement but that is much below the prescribed index of nutritional security to the kids. We aim at achieving it through increased access to, and consumption of, milk. The project is crucial to addressing the most fundamental needs of the kids who are critically food-insecure. BUDGET FOR A SMALL DAIRY PROJECT WITH THREE COWS The cost of buying three cows with milking capacity of ten liter each: Rs 80000 (Euro 1000) Production of Milk each month 900 liter per month Production of Milk per year: 10800 liter Market value of the production of milk per year Rs 324000(Euro 4050) After investing Euro 1850 (for cows, constructing a shed, fodder, & caretakers salary), we are making a profit of Euro 4050. This is the market price of the milk but if we provide the consumption access of 10800 liter, that is more than sufficient to address the nutritional security to 200 kids coming from the most disadvantaged group of the community. This project carries revolutionary character as no community school in the region has ever addressed nutritional security through such indigenous approach.
